I just bought a D200. I used the 18-200 MM lense on this body. When I set the lenses at the 18 mm, my D200 would not focus anything further than 2 feet away. If I set the lense to about 35mm, then my D200 would focus on things that are 2 feet away I set the a1 and a2 to both focus and it is set on S and auto focus, center metering. I am focusing on static objects, like books, and other objects on the desk or within the brightly lit room.
Does anybody know what could be wrong? Any comments are welcome.
I'm a little unclear about what your experiencing. Can you manually focus and take a shot? Is the camera not getting an AF focus lock? If you can take pictures at longer focal lengths you are probably having a problem with the lens; but if you can't take any pictures at all using AF, then there is probably something wrong with the camera (most likely the AF module).
sorry, it is the 18-70 mm that came with my D70. I had no problem with the lense on my D70. I bought the D200 body only.
Back to the focusing problem: I used AF. If the lense is set at 18mm, D200 will not focus on anything that is more than two feet away. If I set the focal length at 35 mm or more, it will focus either within the 2 feet or beyond 2 feet.
I am taking the camera back to the store today to see what I can find out.
