I would appreciate any suggestions for the best software solutions for producing BW from my D100. Am using PS E 2.0. Should I upgrade, or look at other programs? Again, my primary concern is BW. Thanks
I think that the nic ColorEfx Complete Edition is a must have plug-in for PS.
They have multiple BW conversion filters, which should please you with results.
In addition, Vincent Versace, www.versacephotography.net teaches his method of B&W conversion in Photoshop at the Epson Print Academy. I think that these seminars are among the very best bargains in photography and I recommend them to everyone that I know. www.epsonprintacademy.com
Since your using PSE 2.0 you won't be able to do channels UNLESS you purchase "The hidden power of Photoshop Elements 2" by Richard Lynch. His book includes a CD which contains Curves and Channels for elements users. So what you can do is what I also do. Download a free copy of Virtual Photographer which allows you to work with various style of B/W filters and such.
There are so many ways to creating a B/W image and most everyone has their own method. I'm satisfied with Virtual Photographer enough to not even use the other manual methods. I've compared them all and I just like what VP gives me so I'm happy with it.
BTW, upgrading to PSE 3 is not a mistake. It's worth the few dollars as opposed to what CS costs.
