I am starting a sports photography business and need a good zoom lens, up to at least 400mm. Any recs on a good lens for action photography? I have been a film photographer up until now, but I need a new camera and will probably go with the 100. Any thoughts on this would be appresiated!

If by sports you mean action, and by business you mean you're serious, I would think you'd want to look at the D2h. Anticipating the focal length is harder because you never know how close you'll be to the action. 400mm may be too much length for some venues. I would look at the 70-200VR or 80-200 Af-s first and then add a nice fast 300 f2.8 with a teleconverter. Those two would cover most situations IMO.

The D100 is fine for some sports (and some do use it for football) but for any fast sport you want the D2H!
For the lens... the new 200-400 would be the first choice. A 70-200VR with 2x converter would be great too. If it is for a slow sport the 80-400 has a nice range.
p.s. You could check in the Sport&Action forum what others are using.

I too was looking for a good lens with a decent range, and was very tempted by the 80-400 Nikkor. I'd heard about quality issues however, and tried a couple - one was good and one not so good in terms of image quality. If you fancy this lens, make sure you can take a few shots with it before purchasing.
As for me, I bought a mint 2nd hand 70-300AFD and am saving for the 70-200VR.
