Just wondering if anyone here has a D100 yet ? ...
The shop I work for in Oxford UK has sold two of them to customers who had them pre ordered in the last week. I got to give them a quick look over and am impressed with what I see, but I guess the output is what counts. I'm surprised that they are in the UK already as the FM3a was out in the Asia then the US and only then did Europe get them (If I remember correctly)
On taking it out of the box I was pleasantly suprised by the build quality compared to my previous camera, the F80. The D100 seems sturdier and has more 'heft'.
I,m using it with a 28-105mm zoom Nikkor and so far, I,m very pleased with the results. Also, the instant feed back via the lcd screen is so cool - and incredibly useful. I have,nt had much chance to really play with it yet due to work commitments so I,m currently working my way through the manual. Here,s one of my first shots, taken indoors in natural light.
I've had mine for two days now! I didn't order it, I didn't put a down payment on it, I didn't put my name on a waiting list, I just walked in my friendly camera store, asked if they had received the D100 yet, and indeed they had received three the day before. That did it. I walked out poorer and richer.
The funny thing is that the other store I went first had orders for twenty of them and had received only five so far. I had to put a down payment and wait until... they had no idea when.
So far, a wonderful camera. Steep learning curve, what with all the options and settings, but what fun! And what color fidelity! Unbelievable!
No, right here, in Montreal. CAN $ 3,350, or US $ 2,200. Regular market, warranty and all. Sometimes, living in Canada has its bright sides, and we do have electricity and telephone now. Heck, we even have Internet
And did either of you get the Nikkor 24-85mm AF-S at the same time? Its pretty tough sourcing this new lens as well... which is somewhat strange, considering the 50mm f/1.8D has been around in plenty for quite a while now (I think Nikon is playing games).
I was not interested in that zoom for two reasons: one, I prefer fixed lens and I already have 24, 35, 50 and 85 mm. Of course, now I need a really wide angle to make up for the 1.5 factor. Two, I've read a few negative comments about it. But I'd love to hear a different song from any Nikonian here.
The shops in San Diego finally started to recieve the D100 in stock. The two largest stores that got shipments of 10 each sold out. George's Camera sold out in three hours. Nelson Photo sold all ten before they even got them in stock. On a whim, I called around to the smaller shops and Point Loma Camera had gotten three D100's and still had two in stock. My credit card is now $1999 + tax heavier, but I've got my D100. What a beautiful camera...

The camera shop called me this evening and told me my pre-ordered D100 is in stock! Yeah! I hope I can make time to go pick it up tomorrow, because Thurs. is the holiday and they'll be closed. I'll post a pic.........D
The bad news is that my D1's DOF preview button has just failed, so I guess it's going to have to take a trip to Nikon UK for repair.
The good news is that I went on my local dealers web site to get their phone number so I could arrange to send the camera in - and saw they have the D100 in stock. Temptation and the fact my annual bonus has been burning a hole in my pocket for the last three months were just too much....
So yes, I've got one. I've also decided to give the AF-S 24-85 a go: I wanted something a bit less heavyweight than the 28-70 for occasions when I'm out walking.
Now all I need is some decent weather: we were having hailstorms this afternoon. In July. Stupid British climate.
Lens & Shutter. I'm editing this post to say the last quote was about $3100. They quoted me $3300 at one point. I'd guess it'll be somewhere in between. They are good about negotiating prices, but I don't know if the D100 will be very negotiable. I read about Camera Canada in Photo Life, I think it was. Glad to hear a good review of them.
I went out to test the camera today but unfortunately that 24-85mm lens has bitten me - see this post. I'm going to refrain from posting any of the shots I took since I don't think they're a fair reflection on what the camera can do.
I have just ordered mine from Warehouse Express (in the UK), They said it'll be delivered on Monday I can't wait to dip my toe in the digital SLR waters.... I will be testing it fully next weekend when I go to Germany for a big BMX event, so i'll let you all know how it performs under pressure and how well the AF copes etc..... (i'll be taking my beloved F5 as backup...)
After reading the story of Hammam I walked this morning into our local friendly Photo store and walked out 5 minutes later with a brand new D100..... You should see the face of my wife (She was waiting in the car)
It seems that everybody goes on a long waiting list with the big guys while some small local photo-stores out there have D100's waiting for you.
I Paid $2119.69 Incl. Tax
I'm happy now although it doesn't feel like my F5 but I'm not complaining.
Aaah! The battery is full! And now it's time to try it out! See Ya!
Count me in. Just purchase one this morning at a local camera store in Milwaukee. The salesperson gave a a cold confused look when I told her that I bought the camera "only for hobby". (I'm still in college) It's a very nice camera, and now my roommate is getting envious and can't wait to get himself a D-SLR (he wants a D60 since he already invested in G2 and speedlite 420EX).

The "cash" price for a D100 here in Hong Kong is USD 2,300. For Hong Kong, that is too high. A few stores I have seen have stock (eg 3-4 cameras each). BTW, the D1H can be had here for USD 2,800. This is temptingly close in price since the D1H is a better camera in every way except pixel count. I'll be watching the prices of both.
Hi Justin. Would you happen to know if the accessories for the D100 are available already in Hong Kong? (like the MB D100) . I will be going to Hong Kong next week and i hwas hoping I oould get one there. Thanks
saw you hiking pics . is that in Hong kong . seems like you guys really had fun.
The projected price in manila is also around $2300. it's a little disappointing because hongkong prices are usually much lower than US prices. please keep us up-to-date with hong kong prices. it has to go down! please god
YES! I received a call from my local camera dealer that mine was in. I got it Thursday and so far I love it! I have not had much time to play with all the settings and options, but it appears to be a great body!
I was out of town till today Sunday. Fed Ex delivered the camera to my front steps on Friday and it sat in the open till now. I am surprised that the Nikon Capture 3 is only good for 30 days. That sucks.

That's about the prettiest picture I've seen so far with the D100. I'm getting very, very interested. Please post more pics. I guess so far, most people who've handled the D100 either are not very good photographers or just have trouble learning the thing. Nice pic. Again, please post some more nice pics. Gonna have to start saving them pennies for that camera and don't wanna make a mistake.
Thank you very much for your appreciation! I just used to be very happy with my F80 for month, so I feel at home with my D100. The macro is made with the Nikon 28-105 3.5-4.5 in macro mode. It already give pretty cool results.
I can post other photos, but they can only weight 70Kb. That's not much... I can send a fine JPEG to interesed ones...
