FYI - I sent in my D100 last week, sending it next day air on Tuesday so it would be in Louisville, KY before Monday. Just to let you know, I received it back today - wow, that was really quick - a superb turnaround time from Nikon...I'm impressed. They packed it exceptionally well and sent it back both bubble wrapped and loaded with those styrofoam pellets. They even included an insert page of upgraded information to put in your camera manual. So, if they started upgrading on Monday...and I got it back 2 days later - wow!!!
Even had one forum chap question my sending it next day air. I responded that I surmised that perhaps, Nikon had a method for tracking sequentially when cameras arrived for upgrade, and that they would fix them accordingly. It now seems that this is the case.
Just one question. I know this sounds rather gauche, but I'm suffering from a "brain fart" right now. What do I do on the D100 to check the version of my firmware? I went through the menu but there is nothing that shows me how to view the version on the LCD screen. I know this has been covered in the past in various threads, but I completely forgot how to do it. Any suggestions?
Now if only Nikon can get it together and release 3.0 - perhaps in a month or so - addressing all of the exposure concerns . And if they respond as quick with that proposed firmware upgrade as they did this one, we'd be fans for life. Albeit, I wish we still could do a download and subsequent CF card insert update. Oh well...
To check the firmware version just press the multi-selector to the right a couple of times when you're in playback mode until you see the first data overlay - the one that says CAMERA: NIKON D100 at the top. That has the firmware version on it.
Nothing on the exposure side as of yet - since I just got it. And I don't want to hope for anything too much because it may just "fool" me into believing that something was done, when it in fact hasn't been addressed yet. I am taking it to the Western NC mountains this next weekend, so it will get a good workout there. I'll be better able to tell at that time.
Heck, I'm also in the process of purchasing the Fuji S2 Pro so hopefully, I'll have it for that trip. Then I'll compare both cameras since I take most scenic and nature shots.
Dropped mine off in Mellville on Tuesday (tech support told me incorrctly that they would do it there), but got it back today (Friday) which is not bad....
BUT for two days they could not tell me even if the camera had been shipped to KY and said it would take 7 b-days. Well, it turns out I booked a job for Sunday so I called and harassed them every day. Even called and left a ranting message on some VP's phone at corp HQ. About 2 hours after leaving that message I got a call that said the camera was being overnighted.
I try to avoid being a prick on the phone (as this comes WAY to easily for me, and must be very bad karma), but in cases like this, I think the squeaky wheel gets the digital camera back.
