I have attempted to locate a thread on this topic and I couldn't find one. So, if this is a repeated question please direct me to the thread and I apologize for the redundant question.
I am guessing most on here use the D100. Did you consider the S2 in your decision process? Any S2 users on here? Thanks.

Now look guy - here you are on the D100 forum and you know what the recommendations will be. I have posted a reply to another thread that may not necessarily answer your questions, but being an owner of both the S2 Pro and the D100, I may shed some light on the matter.
Here's my response to that thread below:

Just my two cents about the "underexposure problem" that pops up on threads. I have not seen it at all on my D100. Maybe there is some difference not found in Nikon's quality control.
One thing I don't get about it. If it is underexposing, why not simply give more exposure, just like film? You can look at the LCD to tell. Maybe I am missing something. I wish there were more owners of S2s and D100s to compare the two in a more statistically correct manner.

I'm sorry that I don't have the luxury of having both. So I guess for now you shold only relying on Ben. ( And I thinl he's honest ) Hope there are other who owns both and willing to share their experience. I never had under exp problems, especially since we got monitor to look.
Are you asking this to make your decision what to buy? If so, please consider rental or using from friend first -- for both camera. It's 100% foolprof.
From my D100 opinion, the minus of D100 is only you should add more sharpening in post processing. Of course there is other minus like USB instead of firewire, etc. S2 is usb too, I think. But the rest is all positive for D100.
In Jakarta, the shop could let me bring my own CF card and try the camera in the store only. And check out the result later. Too bad they don't sell Fuji S2.
it's near Bali, if you don't know where it is

Use the search function. Make sure to click the radio button for "and" instead of the default "or" under the search field. There are a million threads about this on nikonians and dpreview. Here's one of them:
