Since I completed the firmware upgrade, I have twice run into issues where after 150 or so pictures, the camera stops writing to the CF card. The camera behaves as if the pics are taken, but nothing is on the card. I am using a SanDisk Ultra II 2.0mb card. This has occured shooting both JPEG Fine and Normal. This never occured prior to the upgrade.
Is this a conincedental bad card or something else? I do a format in the camera before each shooting session. I appreciate any thoughts.
I don't think you need to format before each shooting session but it is interesting you mention it. This afternoon I was taking the picture of something and could have sworn I actually took the picture but didn't see it on the card when I looked later. I figured I either imagined I heard the click or forgot that I deleted it. I may have to pay more attention... But other than that one instance I haven't seen this. I have the Ultra 3 2GB card.
Does your camera say "no images on card" or card not formatted"?"
Before you toss the card, try something. Get PC Inspector smart recovery tool and see if you can recover the data.
I had a couple of cards "lock up" on me, and this free software recovered not only the recent shots, but many pre-dating the last format. It takes several hours, but that beats losing shots.
Second, see if your CF card is counterfiet. Does it have serial numbers on it? My sandisk did not. There is discussion that about 80 percent of sandisk cards on ebay are counterfiet, and the differnces in appearance are minute. On my fake card, the clincher was that there was no serial number on one side.
I had the camera corrupt the data on two occasions during the last 10 months...
