After playing with my D200 I cannot keep only the center focus area as the default so I can compose my photo. Presently, I can choose the center focus area with the multi selector. However, is there an easy way to keep only the center area focused without having to use the multi selector? For example, in tight shots when I want to focus on eyes, I would like to use the center focus area to lock on to the eyes, press the shutter halfway, then recompose the shot with the eyes in focus. Instead, now I have several focus areas to select and this seems a bit more time consuming. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Try changing the AF Area Mode to Single-Area (see page 54 of the US manual). I started out like this, but I'm now starting to trust the D200 AF modes a bit more.
I wish my D200 body was a significant portion of my NAS-related expenses...
