Thanks, Alan. HOw does the pre-mirror fire option work? Does it raise the mirror a second before the shutter fires to allow shake to happen and be over before the picture is taken? Does that cause a significant lag?
Yes, that is the way it works and yes it does cause a lag. In fact, on previous manual focus bodies it was a function of the self timer. It works fine in regard to allowing vibration to stop before shutter release but it is still not as versatile as a true MLU. But I'll take it. It should really be included on all SLRs regardless of cost.
Accoring to the specs released (by mistake) earlier today, it will have a pre-release mirror function as on of the shooting-modes.
Translated using-babelfish: 1) Way of resumption to single release; 2) Way of continuous resumption to low L speed): from 1 to 4 photograms to the second; 3) Way of continuous resumption to high speed: 5 photograms to the second; 4) Way timer; 5) Way raised mirror
Thanks, guys. I do a lot of macro and this function would make a difference, whether true MLU (wish, wish) or the other, it will be better than what my D70 has. BTW, I have my money all saved up and ready to buy! Enough to purchase a special "kit" lens also if it is something I don't already have covered. }> I am soooo excited. I didn't know the D200 forum had been started up as I hadn't looked for new forums. I made a comment in one of the other forums that I wish there was something between the D70 and D2x that was affordable for me, and a poster directed me here. I'm glad I discovered it late or I might be dead of anxiety by now.
The FUNC button is on the body in the same place as the D2X (left side of lens mount, above DOF Preview button). This is a button that you can assign different functions to, e.g. "Spot Metering", AE Lock, etc.
I'm not going to celebrate true MLU just yet. Based on previous history (the F100 does not have it), it would be inconsistent for Nikon to put it in this level of body. But here's hoping for inconsistency!
I'll be thrilled if it does. And even though the circulating specs seem to have a lot of gravitas, I'm not putting stock in anything until I see it on Nikon's website officially. MLU on a second tier body would be a real breakthrough for Nikon and I'll applaude them for it.
You don`t have to doubt this, I really don`t think anyone would make a fake 24-page pdf in norwegian AND, I downloaded it from nikons ftp-server. I could send it to you, even if it`s in norwegian, you`ll see it`s the real thing.
What is there to "see"? Do you see something in a picture or something in the text? There is a button on some images that some think is MLU but is probably a function button. But, if you read Norwegian and it says Mirror Lock Up, the yippee! I'm thrilled.
I just read the official *pdf file from the nikon server. maybe i am getting old and blind but i didnt fina anything mentioning this issue. Well, i dont think it has MLU, but the specs say, that it has a new and improved kind of mechanic for almost no mirror-shake.
btw.: the link to the ftp seems to be down. There was no english pdf and for whom it may concern, i can provide a german version of it, but assuming nobody of you will understand it?
Well, as usual, Nikonians' investigators have come through again! I am tickled pink about the MLU and I trust what you all say. I haven't gotten my private-eye license yet, so I leave it to you. Kudos!
