HI

There was a promotion at one of the stores in Durban toady. Used a D200 with a variety of lenses but sadly no 18-200.

Features I really liked in comparison to my D70 are :

- all the idiot modes are gone. Only PASM and a variety of other key parameters are left, all available from dedicated buttons.

- good feel in the hand, slightly heavier than D70 but similar size, smoother shutter, nice. Way way lighter and smaller than the D2X.

- nice big viewfinder, reminds me of my F80. Nice big screen on the back too.

- very fast continuous shooting, not that I ever use this much.

- loads of features not mentioned in the brochures.

- There was an A0 (alsmost life size) portrait print that the demonstrator (a pro with Nikon connections) had taken in jpeg the previous night and printed. Quality was very good, sharp, no pixelisation visible and beautiful soft tones.

- all the buttons are bigger and easier to use than the D70

Only feauture I didn't like was that 10 pin remote release socket. I will now have to purchase yet another expensive gadget to fire it because neither the mechanical release (F80) or the ML-L3 (D70) are compatible. I don't understand what is wrong with a simple threaded hole on the shutter release button. It has worked reliably on all cameras for decades and needs no further improvement!

In spite of this minor irritation, I am very impressed and will be buying a D200 body as soon as they start taking orders.
