I have had long discussions with a couple of D70 owners as to why a D200 image looks softer when viewed alongside a D70 image, both at 100%/1:1 pixels, in the end I used this analogy and seemed to be getting somewhere, see what you think:

Let's imagine I am the proud owner of a state-of the art Sooper2 2-pixel camera, it takes images of 2 pixels only and the pixels are side-by-side in landscape format.

Now I take a picture of (say) the inside of a barn with an open side on the left, so half the image is dark (the inside) and half is light (bright sunlight outside). I take the picture. In the result I have 1 black pixel and one white (the white one on the left). Wow I say - that IS sharp.

Next month I purchase the NEW camera out, the SooperDooper8, WOW! it has DOUBLE the resolution along each side and hence EIGHT pixels (4x2) (- don't even go into the battery life ). After waxing lyrical on several internet forums about how long I had to wait and could I get the manual.... I decided to go shoot the old barn again.

The result this time was so dissapointing (sp?)- When I zoom in to 1:1 (doesn't take much I'll admit) I have two white pixels in the left column, 2 black in the right column and (horror) 2 different shades of grey in the middle! Where has all the crisp sharpness from the Sooper2 gone??? I have this fuzzy shading now????

...am I close do you think?

Cheers

Simon
