Whats up with the D200 it seems like Nikon started shipping the D200 before it was tested all the way.

I am trying to find one to buy but every day i keep reading of more people with more problems one right after another.
In fact i see more posts about problems with the D200 then i do of people that are happy and loving it.

I have been keeping track and so far here is what people are having problems with.

#1 Tons and Tons of banding problems it seems like every camera must have some type of banding problem that may not show up right away.

#2 Many people have reported the D200 died with in a month.

#3 lots of reports of the battery not working right.

#4 reports of using the SB-800 flash with the D200 and getting all over exposed images i just read another today but with the SB-600 it works great.

#5 Lots of reports including photos posted showing very very soft images and focus problems.

Camera that have been sent in to Nikon and have been fixed now report.

#1 Banding still shows up just a little.

#2 after the fix one guys camera arrived back and the auto focus no longer works he had to send it back.

#3 A few others after the fix the camera has died with in hours of use.

#4 Posted here one user reports that after the fix the camera no longer has any dynamantic range left to it.
That Nikon to get rid of the banding is changing the DR so in the dark areas that you would see banding it now just goes dark with no detail left.

This is what gets me the most you send in the camera to be fixed and then end up with a camera with very little DR i would hate that i shoot weddings in dark rooms all the time and need very good DR and need to be able to shoot a bright white dress with out it blowing out easy.

The D200 is starting to sound like a nightmare of a camera to have and use.
It just makes me think that if all this is wrong now what about after a good six months of real everyday use is this going to hold up.
I do not want to be on a job and have the camera quit on me. That is what my D100 did two times years ago and made me move to canon. I am back with Nikon now but i need reliability in the camera i use every day. I had the Canon D30, 10D and 20D and never had to send any of them in to be fixed even after very heavy use on the beach for portraits and for weddings.

I will buy the 2 year extended warentee for the D200 i think it will need it for sure but it would not be fun to have a camera that needs to be sent in 3 or 4 times a year for problems.
And if they cut the DR out then it makes the camera useless.
I think more people need to check this after they have the banding fixed.
