The EXIF seems to indicate that the NR is on High, despite the post saying it is off. Nevertheless, if this is High ISO NR on Normal or High, I'll still be very pleased (though I'll probably shoot NR off or low).
When I first did tests of high ISO with the D2X, I was blow away with how well it did in both dark and light areas with NR on. But as I soon discovered, color and light graduations produce not nearly as good results in terms of noise at high levels. For portions of the image that are solid in color, very bright or very dark, noise levels are excellent on the D2X. This photo appears to fall into this category as well. I'd like to see the ISO performance on a more varied photo before I draw any significant conclusions about high ISO performance from this camera.
Are you guys expecting 1600 ISO to look like 100 ISO? High ISO is and will always be a compromise where the sensor doesn't operate in it's best comfort zone. There will always be some degradation in picture quality.
