Hi

I'm looking to upgrade my Nikon D40 to either a used D300 or D7000. This will be a 2nd DSLR to my D90 also. I realize the D7000 has much more resolution and newer technology.

What intrigues me about the D300 is the control layout. The D40/D90 has the tiny little buttons that must be pressed for ISO and WB and I find this to be somewhat fiddly when transitioning in and out of different light. Takes two hands to make the change. In fact, I find it to be extraordinarily frustrating at times. I realize the D90 and D300 have essentially the same sensor and I'm very pleased with the D90's IQ. I find that prices vary greatly on both the D300 and D7000 based on condition. It seems the D300's fetch more $$ when in great condition.

Am I foolish to buy the older technology just to get better controls? Is the D300 becoming just too outdated?
