I shoot my D200 just about everyday in a studio situation.
Average 500 activations a week.

The only problem that I have is the usb connection is getting looser by the day and will soon need to be replaced. Cost w/ shipping about $250.00.

Replacement D200 camera cost also about $200 - $250.

Is there any reason to spend more money on a D300 or even upgrade to an even more "modern" camera?

Here is the thing.

I shoot raw and do not care about ANY advanced image processing software for jpegs.
I shoot manual and do not care about ANY advanced exposure upgrades,
I shoot tethered and do not care about "live view"
NO need for video
I shoot at 100 ISO and do not need high iso" capabilities.
I fill frame so do not need more megapixels for cropping.
I shoot slow so I do not need speed.
I shoot with AC and do not care about the battery.
I shoot tethered and do not care about the form or speed of the buffer and storage card.
I will use auto focus but do not need to pay for added focus points.
Not concerned about white level as I set manual.

I do need:
USB connecton.
AC connection
Non menu driven controls for f-stop, focus point selection & focus lock.
Connection for some sort of shutter release.

I would not mind something that can auto-focus better in low light as the modeling lights often make focus difficult. But not willing to pay much as I can manage just find. I am no using fast glass. Shoot with Micro Nikkor 70 - 180.

So the only reason to upgrade in my mind was that if I could get a demonstrable improvement in image quality

What say you ?.
