I have been using a D300s for some high speed photography of bicycle racing. I typically use the highest frame rate and shutter speed possible. The autofocus works wonders to track riders as the move either in front of me or towards or away from me. But the exposure seems to fail very often. In a sequence of 5 frames shot in CH mode, the first two will be proper exposure but the middle one will be 2 stops off and the next two okay. Now the subject is not changing, usually well lit and fills most of the screen with the zoom I am using. To my surprise this change in exposure even happened when I switched to manual mode and dialed in the shutter speed and aperture that the meter called for. It does not always happen and not just the middle frame of a sequence. Any ideas of what could be going on?
