I usually use Lexar 400X or SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s 8Gb cards and shoot in RAW 12-bit lossless compressed on my D300. On first insertion, the cards show a capacity of 385 images. However, I am repeatedly getting 520 or so from each card. This usually means I never exhaust the card and change it well before that point. Probably it is a good point as I will always (?) have some capacity left, but it is frustrating not knowing just when I have to change cards. I have formatted the cards both in and out of the camera, but with no effect. Does anyone have any idea (1) what is causing this, and (2) how to fix it, please?
