I have a d200 for some time now and it has taken around 80000 picts. in order to do so I have used 3 original batteries randomly. usually I have charged them only after being completely out of charge. lately, a couple of shots after inserting a fresh charged battery. it gives me signal of no charge. I remove it and put it back again and it lasts for a few more dozens. however this has got worse and worse. Is it just a battery charge problem - meaning the batteries are dead- or am I having any problem with my camera.
has anyone had this problem?
thanks in advance

Fastest troubleshooting is to check the contacts inside the battery well of the camera and see if they need to be cleaned. Also check the contacts on each of the batteries. If cleaned and the problem still persists, get a hold of a new EN-EL3.
Edited to add: when the battery is operating correctly, take the time to use the camera's menu to "read" the condition of the battery - on the 0-4 scale, what is it reading in terms of "useful life" remaining?

Welcome to Nikonians!
Use DeOxit and a Q-tip to clean the electrical contacts on the camera and the batteries.
Then go into the Set-up Menu > Battery Info and check the battery life scale as Armando discribed above. If the batteries are at 4 it is time to think about replacing them with a new EN-EL3e.

Luis, I have read that it is not good to completely discharge these batteries because it shortens battery life. It is best to store them when their remaining charge is about 50% and they are not harmed when they are topped off after a shoot. Hope this helps.
Firmware is: A 2.01 B 2.01 - updated from A,B 2.0 to correct the dead battery syndrome
