using 55-200 af/vr kit lens in manual mode
Is it possible to use a kit lens like the 55-200 in manual mode, setting the aperture and shutter speed as I want?
Don't see any reference to being able to override the cpu in the manual.

Yes, you can. You aren't overriding the CPU when in manual exposure mode. You set the aperture and shutter speed using the camera's command dials and use the light meter scale to determine proper exposure.

You can use Manual exposure mode with any Nikon F mount AF lens including the 55-200mm VR on any Nikon DSLR.
The CPU in the lens provides the lens type and distance data to the camera body. It doesn't limit the exposure mode you choose.

Thanks to all. I'm not sure precisely how I would take advantage of this, but I got to wondering.
I finally realized that either aperture preferred or shutter preferred would accomplish whatever I might want to do.
