I was going to clean up an old D100 and give it to a teenager. Last night I noted that I must have an external power source attached before I can clean the sensor. That sounds crazy! Usually all one needs is a well charged battery. The external power supply was extra and never shipped with the D100. I never had to do this with my other cameras: D70s, D200, D300 & now D800. Is there a workaround? I have looked and I see no firmware upgrade.
I use a cable release and lock the shutter open with that. It works on the D100 (with a traditional screw cable release) and on the D2h, D2x and D3 with the MC-30. As long as the lock is secure, I don't see it as risky at all.
