The control panel plastic cover of my trusty D-300 has a crack in it. I am not sure how this happened as I didn’t drop the camera or recall putting any weight on plastic cover. I purchased the D-300 in April 2008 and it only has 10,000 clicks on it – I am not a prolific shooter. I also subsequently purchased a D-700 and more recently a D-600. For the foreseeable future I intend to keep the D-300.

The crack is such that I don’t believe any dust or debris will enter into the camera. Other than the crack being a cosmetic issue is there any urgency in have the plastic cover replaced? I suppose I could ship the camera off to Nikon and/or find an authorized repair shop to fix it and do a general cleanup. Any thoughts?
