There was a thread out there a while back about this. What was the verdict? I'd be in on a bulk D200 order. The thought was that it would entice some local camera shop to cut the price down to guarantee sales of say, 20-100 D200s.
What do people think? Anyone already/want to look into this? I'll make some calls and see what I can come up with.

Ok, so I talked to a local camera shop and they said if we had an order of 50-100 D200s they could get the price down to around $1550, and I bet we could do some bargaining and get them even lower than that.

The conclusion of the previous thread on this topic was that any communication with dealer(s) regarding potential "bulk purchase" offers or other incentives for Nikonians members should be done through "official channels".
Please contact our Director of Ads and Communications, Jason Odell (DrJay32), who will decide whether anything can be taken forward.

That's an interesting datapoint for where we might expect prices to drop to once the initial pre-orders wind down.
At any rate, I'd be pretty interested at $1550, and even more interested if we could negotiate a bargain "kit" price on D200 + lens, such as the 18-70DX or maybe the new 18-200VR.
That said, I don't envy the person who tries to get 50+ strangers to commit to a bulk order. I've tried setting up bulk orders with much smaller numbers, and found it to be an exercise in frustration.
