D300 Won't Focus with Sigma 120-300 OS
I bought the Sigma 120-300 OS last September to use for night football with my D800. It has worked like a champ.
I went to shoot some flag football this afternoon in bright sunlight and decided to take the higher FPS D300. I got to the game and no matter what I did it wouldn't autofocus. The lens is in auto mode, the switch on the camera body was placed in the single and continuous mode and the menu selection is set to focus when the shutter button is depressed. I fiddled with all kinds of combinations.
I came home and Sigma works perfectly on the D800 and a 24-70 works perfectly on the D300.

Did you try cleaning the electrical contacts on both the lens and the camera body?
In the past, some Sigma lenses have required updated CPU's in order for them to work with newer bodies. The strange thing is I can't recall an issue with a new lens being used on an older body.
You might want to contact Sigma and ask them for advise.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
