D300s Focus Mode Switch Broken!?
I've googled & searched several forums. cant find a similar issue.
So it SHOULD be a switch with 3 detentions corresponding for the 3 positions, C-S-M. Somehow, mine has turned into a switch with 4 detents and 5 positions???
Detent C = Nothing
Slightly above C = C
Detent S = Nothing
"New" detent slightly above S = sometimes S
Detent M = M
Very gentle on camera equipment. D300s has stayed in it's little home, never so much as taken a bump. Just took it out one day and the camera wouldn't focus.
I'm at a loss. Disgusted really and there are zero service & prolabs remotely close anymore. The entire point of buying a D300s was that it HANDLES and weighs like the old FA/F line. it's AF system aiding worsening eyesight. If I wanted to shoot in M I could just pull out my 21 year old FA!?
Sigh... Does anyone have ideas?

Could be the mechanics behind the switch are loose. It does happen. I just grabbed my D300 and noted the following:
C - okay no intermediate - jumps right to the "dot" position.
C-to-S okay no intermediate - jumps right to the "dot" position.
S-to-M - noted a slight detant position just after the S symbol where it could remain if I did not fully push back to M.
