If, after the metering times out, I hit the AF-ON button, the CF light flashes once. Why might it do this?
If only Mozart had had a camera

I believe the camera is verifying the CF card is labeled/formated. The "write" light does not appear if there is no CF card in the slot. I verfied that on my D3S.
Hope this helps.....JL

The CF light indicates that the camera is accessing the CF or media card for some type of processing and it is not safe to remove the card. The light will blink when the card is inserted and the camera is on, when data is written to or read from the card, and when the card is closed by a time out or powering down of the camera.
