Though I tend to agree with the idea to use original NIKON battery; I did purchase a PEARSTONE for about $21. as a backup from B&H Photo. New Nikon is $44.
The battery works fine with my D300s. I tested by doing (2) 10 min and (1) 15 min video clip. The battery drained to 45%, but recovered to 62% after about 10 min. after the camera was turned off. In general, it dropped 15% after each video, but then recovered some.

The Nikon battery seems to provide better consistent energy, dropping 9% after a 10 min video, then remained at that level.

As you might know, Live View or Video is the biggest drain on the battery.

One other difference; Using BAT INFO in the Nikon menu, the number of photos taken with the battery is recorded. The Pearstone does not retain this data.
