When I use the burst function on my D300 for HDR I hear the mirror flapping for each exposure. 2 Questions and a want for the D400 etc.
1. Am I hearing the mirror or is it only the sound of the shutter?
2. If it is the mirror flapping, can it be locked up for the duration of the burst sequence?
D400 etc. want - if it is the mirror flapping for each of the HDR shots, a menu option to lock it up for the exposure sequence.

You're hearing both, the mirror flap and the shutter. Although it sounds like one all-inclusive flap because the shutter releases milliseconds after the mirror raises.
If you look through the viewfinder while shooting in Ch you will see through the lens as the mirror rests between frames.
To my knowledge, you cannot lock up the mirror for anything other than single frame exposure.

You are hearing the mirror and the shutter opening and closing for each frame.

Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
