Hi, I have experienced two problems when filming with my D300s. First problem has occured a few times, including the day before the next problem. I am using two memory cards, SD card is 16Gb class 4. When I select target in movie settings, SD slot reports lots of space, but when i attempt filming card is full! Movie setting still reports plenty of space free. I always format card when images are transferred. To solve the problem I must save on the CF card instead, which is much smaller. I suspect the card is corrupt somehow, is ok after reformatting.
The other problem was much more serious: during filming (to the CF slot) the camera suddenly stops filming, and the recording is not saved. The camera is locked, and the shutter display only shows "Err". The mirror is locked up. Even if I switch the camera on/off it doesn't help. I don't quite remember how, but finally the mirror returned and the camera seems ok again. I had been fiddling in the menu, switched it on and off, removed lens and battery grip.
I had only made a couple of short recordings before the incident, so it shouldn't have overheated. I took many long recordings a few days earlier. I had an original battery grip with both batteries at around 50%, but should be plenty of power left.
Has someone else experienced this?? It is very serious if I no longer can trust the camera.
Hi, I always format the card in the camera after transferring the images. There was only one minor firmware adjustment, and I didn't install it because the fixes wasn't relevant. But I can try it out. Thanks!
Hi, I normally save on the SD card, and use CF as overflow. That's because the SD is 16Gb and the CF is 4Gb. When the camera locked up, I think I was filming in medium resolution, not HD, because of the maximum film length in HD. The card is class 4, but is specially made for HD-filming. I also have a 4Gb class 6 SD card.
Hi, I bought a new Sandisk Extreme 32Gb class 10 SD HC-I card, which should be reqlly quick. Formatted it in the camera, but I got the "full" problem after using only 1.5 Gb on the first try. If I delete some images, it seems to be working correctly again, not very consistent. It seems to be luck if it is working, but somehow it seems to behave normally if I delete some images in-camera. This is very annoying, as I was hoping to use this card for filming, I am not sure if this is confusing the camera. The film settings report more than 2 hours capacity, but the info screen reports full card.
Is it possible that the different capacity cards are the problem? I have noticed, when taking stills (I don't do movie on a DSLR) that the number of images recordable reflects the smaller card when they are different capacities. This is why I always have identical capacity cards in the slots, or if absolutely unavoidable, leave one slot empty.
Don't know if this is relavent, but might be worth checking out.
Hmm, might be worth checking out. I use a 4Gb CF card, and 32Gb (previously 16Gb) SD card. I cannot recall having problem with my 4Gb SD card, so maybe there is something here. But I get this problem even when I have only used about 1.5 Gb of the SD card, and plenty of space left on both cards. Deleting some files on the SD card seems to temporarily solve the problem. I have not installed the latest firmware, there was only one update right after the release, with some minor changes that should not be relevant.
