Hi, if I pre-set my D300 to auto ISO and when I switch setting to M, will the ISO stays auto or the manual setting?
Most times, I would like auto ISO when I am shooting under A or S priority. But in M mode, I would like everything in manual.

Yes, you'll maintain the auto iso until you change it. You can set up one of the shooting banks with auto iso and other settings you prefer when different modes and a simple bank selection will toggle you in and out of the different settings.

Leaving auto ISO set with manual is kind of nice, in that it makes your guess correct by adjusting the ISO up or down to allow for error. If you are going purist manual with one set ISO, though, or practicing guessing exposure, you wouldn't want this.
I like it, because I've gone meterless and guessed exposure long enough.
I actually usually use aperture preferred auto most of the time with my manual focus Nikkors. Ten years ago if someone had told me I would be doing that, I would have said they were crezy.
