Zeikos battery pack causing exposure problems?

Someone "threw in" a Zeikos battery pack when I bought another piece of equipment from him, and yesterday was the first opportunity I had to try it out. It seemed to throw my exposure out of whack. No matter how I adjusted with EV, or even in manual setting while chimping my way through it, I could not get a proper exposure. Mostly the images were blown out, but if I adjusted the exposure downward, they would severely underexpose.

I don't mind chucking the thing but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about this issue.
