Scott, you are right again. My improper search for "firm ware D300S" did not yield anything that seemed helpful. At my age, it has been a while since I was admonished for anything. Nikonians is truly lucky to have a watchdog such as you. Thanks again for your assistance.
There's an old saying here; if you're too fatigued to answer properly, meaning in the spirit of Nikonians - see the ToU if you're not sure what that means - don't answer at all. Someone else will more than likely answer. An answer with an admonishment is NOT in the proper spirit this community is fostering. Period.
The Old Guard (you guys and gals know who you are, and no, it's not based on Post Count alone) are well aware of the phenomenon called Newbie Fatigue. It happens to everyone, even the Team Members. So watch out for it and feel free to take a break from answering once in a while. No need to carry the load by yourselves. Someone else will pick it up, have no doubt.
No! I didn't do a Google search either, nor did I do a search on Nikonians for the information. I went directly to Nikon's tech support page and got the information I needed and the download that way. If an honest inquiry for information on this forum leads to an obvious "your stupid" response like this one; then I don't want to be a member of a forum that I have to pay for. This same type of response has happened to me personally and I had thought we were mature enough to be past this.
Nikon USA has a technical support section that includes Where can I find firmware downloads for my Nikon products? that list and links to all firmware updates to Nikon products by type of product and then list the products and a link to the current firmware update page or states there have been no firmware updates issued. The current firmware for the D300s is 1.01. You will need to select the Windows or Macintosh version for download.
Please carefully read the entire download page, the instructions follow the download link. I would even print it out and check off each step as you complete that step and verify that the step accomplished what was expected. Also only copy 1 firmware file at at time to the media card and start with a fully charged battery.
Also Nikon imaging software includes an automatic check for updates that includes their various cameras and other hardware.
You can always manually check or subscribe to update alerts for the various tech support pages if you are registered with Nikon Support.
Jerry I agree when it comes to firmware I can understand you wanting to run it by the membership to get it right. Nikonians strives to be different than other sites where you can ask a question and get a friendly honest responce.
Glad you got the info and keep asking away whenever the need arises!
