I think I finally understood what the OP was saying and answered correctly, but non-CPU lenses are not something I could even begin to consider an area of "expertise." I believe this is a Nikon EXIF issue, but I know you all will be able to shed more (accurate) light on the topic.

The gist of his post as I understand it is that Lightroom should be using other EXIF fields to describe the lens characteristics of a non-CPU lens since, apparently, Nikon records "f/0, 0.0mm" as the lens type. As far as I'm aware, there's no other EXIF that would be reliable for use in describing the 28mm f/3.5 Ai-S lens.
