I know it has been addressed here before, but I could not locate the thread, and I was hoping for an updated answer anyway. Can someone recommend a 3rd party wireless remote for my D300? I won't need to use it that much, so I don't want to drop $200 for one.
The Phottix Cleon N8 can be found on the big auction site. Runs about $50 shipped from Hong Kong - supplier was having some issues a few months back, but seems to have them all resolved now. Mine arrived in just over a week and works fine.
The Phottix does what it says on the box. Got mine a month or two back and it's worked perfectly. It even has a screw thread so that you can firmly attach it to the camera - not all the others do - important if the tripod is in a bog or stream, you don't want it falling out!
Sorry if this information isn't any use - I don't know if the D200 and D300 use the same input port. But, I managed to get a cheap hong kong wireless remote, looks like a virtual copy of the photix one. Cost me £6.50 GBP and works exactly as it's supposed to - no problems or criticisms save the fact that the transmitter has an internal battery and needs to be disassembled to have it replaced. I've not done this so i don't know how easy or difficult it is, but £6.50 for a wireless transmitter and receiver doesn't seem too bad, the only other issue is that you can't lock the shutter open like you can with my cheap cable release. Might be worth a look.
I got a Wireless remote for my D300 because I didn't want to Drop 150.00 on the Nikon Version (that actually got bad reviews).
While surfing this forum ran across someone that shopped at DealExreme which is a Hong Kong website. You can read reviews on it, and there isn't anything neg. about them. Used Pay Pal and recieved it in about a week.
YongNuo RF reciever for only 32.00 (free shipping) and it does have a shoe to fit on top of your D300. This has done everthing I need for and more!!!!
Here it is along with a review of it I found. Good Luck.
