Every once in a while in the bottom right corner of the viewfinder, where the frame counter is, I get two codes, r15 and r16. This happens with Nikon lenses and the one sigma lens that I own.
When it happens I cannot take the shot. If I wait a short time I can then take the shot.
I did contact Nikon and they blamed it on the sigma but had no response as to why it does this with nikon glass.
The lenses I have are Nikon - 50/1.4, 12-24/4, 28-70/2.8 and 80-200/2.8 and the Sigma 30/1.4.

r15 or r16 means 15/16 shots remaining in the buffer - the camera displays this while autofocussing before taking the shot i.e. # shots remaining on card changes to # shots available in buffer.
This sounds more like an autofocus problem - if the focus is hunting and cannot lock on it will still be displaying r15/16 in the corner, but this has nothing to do with the focus. Try focussing with the lens cap on and watch the r16 pop up...
