My annual bonus comes on Feb 25th each year, like clockwork. The new D4s is supposed to be announced on....you guessed it....Feb 25th !! Woah !!! I just so happen to need a new D4s. Can the stars be any closer aligned ??? Even my wife says it's too weird.
I am like a kid waiting outside a candy store that is not yet open but has "the goods" in the window. Open the door !!!!!
On of the other threads aboutvthe D4s linked to a post at Nikon rumors that said the 25th. So, take a rumor, add to it something that happens around the same time every year (bonus) and suddenly you can claim something is destiny.
Yeah... I may have been sucked in by the same anticipation that has gotten others from time to time. My schedule has been so busy lately I saw (and took at face value) an announcement that may have been goofiness.
Oh well.....I guess we'll see. Regardless ....it's on my list of "adds" this year....if it ever is actually released.
I agree.... I am not in a huge hurry though as my photo business season just ended. I shoot hockey tournaments every weekend, but once they hit the playoff season, I am done. So I really don't need the camera till next November in theory so I'm not worried about being "the first on my block". I have some time. Usually though I just buy a camera (or TV or golf clubs etc) and the new model comes out 4 weeks later....something like that. This is a first for me.
All I can say if the d4s has 24 mp's I'm going to be very mad haha!!! Actually I am very happy with my d4 tool or maybe its a toy to me. I am interested to see the actual specifications for the d3s and its almost a sure thing that I will pass it up.
Actually though...I could care less about MP count in this new camera. It's my opinion (and ONLY that) the the new camera will be MUCH more expensive if the MP count goes up from the D4. That will immediately put me in the market for a lightly used D4. 16mp will work just peachy for my business.....heck 12mp does right now !!!
As a fellow sports photographer as well as past owner of a D3 and current owner of a D4, I think you'll be stunned no matter the upgrade path you take from your D3. To me, the biggest improvement was in the SNR between the D3 and D3s - sports, landscape, macro - you name it. The D4 added to it. We don't know exactly what improvements the D4s will render, but you might want to look at sales of used D3s and D4 cameras. In my opinion (which is worth everything you didn't pay for it), the biggest jump has been from the D3 to the D3s. The greater SNR is huge. You've seen Chris' D3s shots, so you know what I'm talking about.
Just a money-saving suggestion. The D4 is currently $6k. The D4s won't be less, and both the D3s and D4 will be large improvements over your D3. The final decision is up to you.
Good luck. Maybe the D4s will offer improvements in video, buffer, etc., that may sway you. I'm sure that you won't be disappointed regardless of the path you take.
Probably dead accurate advice....I don't expect the D4s to be LESS expensive. I do hold out hope that (because the D4 was discontinued) that the D4s will be $6k again. That plus some improvements in autofocus etc, would make it a good buy. If it jumps in price more than a grand, I am out (regardless of megapixels) ....and in the market for a lightly used D4 which would be just fine for my application.
Either way...I still love my D3 as it has been a real reliable friend, but it gets used as a backup from there on in.
