I hope there is a simple fix and I am too freaked out about this to think through it clearly. I have D4 in manual mode with 50mm on (tried other glass and same problem) and metering looks like I have a 10 stop filter on. Everything dark, meter pegged to underexposed. Have no exp comp dialed in. Switched to App Priority and normal operation with correct metering and light. Cannot think of a setting that would have caused but obviously I have done something and not realized it. Any suggestions. Thank you.
Take two shots of the same scene, first in Aperture Priority. Let's say that needs an exposure of 1/125th - f/4 - ISO 200. Then take a second in Manual exposure with the same settings. Obviously, the shots should come out the same. Are you saying that the one in Manual would be severely underexposed and the one in A would be OK?
I took the battery out overnight and today put back in and it appears 99% of problem solved. I do not understand why but it is. I still took two comparisons and manual is darker but not black now. Settings for both f16 1/13th and Iso 100.
Thanks for your earlier reply. Any thought on the two identical shots?
Hello, I had same issue in June with view finder dark, tested with 4 different lens, different shooting modes with different lens. Checked the contact on camera body, found that there is a piece that sticks out to make contact with the lens to control the aperture in the lens. That contact was loose. I sent the camera back to Nikon for repair. Problem solved. Check the contact on your D4 body.
