Looking for suggestions: D3 will not shoot with my 50 1.4D, but works with my 105 AFS 2.8. Shutter release depressed, but no clicks. I have fiddled with focus settings (manual, back to auto), ahve turned bady on/off several times, removed and replaced lens on body - nothing.
Wondering if it is related to AF-C and AF-S focus priority (set on focus), or lack of internal motor on the 50 1.4D, or my battery condition (not great).
Believe it or not, I think it's an incompatibility between the D3 and some samples the 50/f1.4 AFD. One of my friends has this lens and it does NOT work reliably on my D3. I forget precisely what the failure mode is, but I think that his sample drives to focus the first time and then yields an error code after that. I tried a different example and had it do something different, but it also failed. It could be my camera, but it seems to work fine with the rest of my lenses, which do cover a pretty wide range of capabilities and production dates.
Since I own the 50/f1.8 AFD and a 50/f1.4 AI, I've never looked into this more carefully.

I am not getting an error code, so it is likely the contacts. I will definitely have a go at cleaning those this evening. Could this also shed light on my focus issues with my D3 + 70-200 combo? Just not as reliable as it once was.
Problem solved? Cleaning the contacts has reawakened my 50 f/1.4. I am used to cleaning my glass and sensor, but have not taken the time to clean the contacts. Thanks for the reminder Luke - I will be cleaning my contacts on other lenses this weekend.
