I just shot 500+ raw images with my new D4 in NEF. Now I load them up and find CS6 will not open them. I have used the plug in dng versions 6.7 and 7.1 ? they still will not open. I am desperate as I have a contract deadline approaching soon and now this happens.
Yes I just got my D4 and did not expect this sock in the gut. Need advice please.
How about a raw converter program just so I can get them in to CS6 as jps.
Yes I have installed that. And No I have not formatted the card since. I have found a raw converter that will jet me a medium resolution jp. It will get me buy with my deadline but I bought this D4 and CS6 to use not limp along with. Will keep you updated thanks.
How you downloaded the images is important. If you used Nikon Transfer, you may have corrupted the NEFs and you don't want to continue doing that. You'll want to download them an alternate way - the Bridge download tool or via the operating system.
This might not be of any use but I thought I should mention it. Almost everyone will be getting new and larger capacity flash cards with their new cameras. In my rush to create a larger masterpiece I did not format my new flash cards I just jammed them in, carefully. Maybe I'm the only person that gets a little gummy headed when I get a new Nikon. But then…maybe not…
Ok , Well my first impression of the D4. I transitioned from a D300 > D3 > D4. So the transition from the 3 > 4 was so far easy. The video section was new to me but so far it is fairly simple. I did not get it for the video. The camera shoot like the D3 and the menu screen are similar in structure. I went from the box to shooting a job the next day with out any glitches.
The Hi ISO did impress me. I set it at 3200 in camera noise reduction off, As per a Nikonian recommendation. It impresses me. It is like going from my d300 to my d3 then to the d4. Every upgrade was more than I expected.
I was on BH list thinking all shops were having a backlog on D4 until I started looking around. I call Jacks Camera in Muncie, In and they had two! I cancelled BH order and had my D4 the next day. Try Jacks ask for Tom. No I do not work for Jacks! www.jackscamera.com . Good luck on your D4. You will not regret it.
I have no problem downloading files from my D4 with Nikon Transfer. I have version 1.5.2. I do have a Firewire 800 card reader that Transfer won't read, recognize or launch from. I can use it to download files using the Apple finder. The files work fine, but my renaming convention is broken. I do use a Lexar USB2 reader and it works fine, but slowly. I am not using CS6 however. I'm still using CS5.
I agree with Rick. I'm seeing reports in several places on the Internet, including the Adobe forums, of photographers transferring D4 files to their computer via Nikon Transfer, and being unable to read them in CS6. I would dump Nikon Transfer. Many of us don't use any Nikon program to transfer files. They are not necessary.
Rick, I loaded ViewNX2 when I got my D4. It would view the files but nothing seemed to work, such as the sliders and buttons on the program! Do I need to activate it? Or what am I doing wrong that certain functions of the software will not work?
Bob, it's a free program. As far as I know, there is no activations.
What operating system are you working on? Since those disks were pressed which came with the D4's Nikon has apparently updated the program and now has 64bit versions, if you're using a 64bit operating system. Regardless, download the latest version. Uninstall the program. Restart your computer. Then install the downloaded program and see what happens. Let us know if that cures it.
