I was curious, so I wrote Nikon support and asked if they thought the D4 needed a screen saver and if so were they coming out with one.
This was the response I got today:
"It is not that Nikon does not think that the D4 needs a screen protector, anything that protects and/or provides a longer life to the equipment is recommended. We actually do not have any updates regarding a coming up D4 screen protector."
I've been looking for a Hoodman snap-on protector or one of those stick-on glass covers as well. No real luck yet, so in the meantime I bought an iPhone plastic screen protector (static type), custom cut it to size for the D4 screen, and it works extremely well. Been 3 weeks now of daily use (in and out of my camera bag) and it has not come off. Peace of mind for under $5, I guess, until a real screen protector is released. -Alex
I used the Hoodman screen cover on my D3, so I contacted the company about availability of a D4 screen cover as soon as my new body arrived. They said it is in the works, but likely will not be out until the end of summer.
I'm using the GGS cover on my D4. I actually got the D800 version, as I only protect the 3.2-inch LCD and have never bothered with the monochrome LCDs on my D2x, D3, D3s, D3x, and other cameras over the years. It's the large LCD that seems to get bumped.
I finalized my D4 order (shipped yesterday) with Brad Berger at Berger Bros. he recommended a high quality, German made glass protector from Giottos. I should get it later today - will let you know how it looks. Brad told me his customers have been pleased with it.
