Has anyone ordered a D4 within the last month and had it delivered yet? I ordered mine January 16 with my local shop and everytime I speak with someone there they get fuzzier and fuzzier about when I might get it. I'm sure in part that's a Nikon communication issue, but still, if there is a way to get it sooner I'm interested. Anyone?
Ordered mine Januari 6th and received it March 18th 2012, which was one of the first units in The Netherlands. With high demand for the D4 and a production volume of 5000 units a month, I think Nikon has problem of supply this demand. Just ads your re-seller they often know more details on the NIkon's supply chain.

Just reporting that I received my D4 today, April 13, from my local bricks and mortar in Canada. I am non-NPS and was top of my dealers non-NPS list. They had earlier gotten some D4 but all went to fill NPS orders. I had pre-ordered the camera in June 2011 (yep 2011 ) and paid a $1K deposit at beginning of January 2012 when the official announcement was made. Nicely, the price dropped by $299. Initially here in Canada the launch price was $6,299 but apparently Nikon has now dropped this price in Canada to $6K even. So that was a nice bonus and I did receive the XQD 16Gb card and reader. Battery is charging! (and I think was charged 50% from factory)
Thanks JP. Yes I have really been looking forward to this, my first full-sized pro body! Timing is good since next week we are going to a Sharp-Tailed Grouse Lek for photography before and just after sunrise. So I have to bear down this weekend and get my tax forms done (for the whole family).
I got tis about an hour ago from customer service at B&H.
I preordered a D4 March
Thank you for contacting the Customer Service Department at
B&H Photo Video and Pro Audio.
I'm sorry it has taken this long for your order, and
unfortunately we don't have a date yet. We have been hounding
Nikon for more information, and have been unsuccessful in
obtaining that information. We have been getting shipments as
small as 2-5 at a time, so based on that I would GUESS at
least 1-2 months. Although that can be less if Nikon starts
sending us larger shipments. I apologize for any
At least someone there was courteous enuf to give some answer
I ordered my D4 from Adorama within the first hour on Jan. 6 and still no movement or ideas from them. I just called and no luck or word on anything. They did state that only NPS orders have been filled. Oh well maybe my birthday in July would be nice!
I ordered my first body on 7/29/2011 and received it on 3/15, I ordered a second body from B&H on the announcement day which I cancelled on 4/2 due to finding one locally in my area (I got really lucky when someone else didn't have the funding to purchase it). I am hearing that there are some pretty long lead times on these bodies but I can tell you that they are worth the wait so hang in there.
I just got off the phone with Hunt's Photo of MA, and my D4 will be here tomorrow. I had ordered it on the 1st morning after the announcement, non NPS. I know that Hunt's first couple of batches went to NPS members.
Thanks to Gary and Kathryn for their good service.
I ordered an extra battery from B&H a while back and paid for it up front with PayPal. I received a note today saying it is still back ordered. I've had my D4 since the 16th of March and love it. Good luck, M. Jackson
Tall’s Cameras in the Seattle area had 3 or 4 D4’s scheduled to come in on 4/19. I called them on 4/17 and confirmed that 2 were not pre-purchased. They only took pre-purchases in person so I went to one of their stores on 4/18 and bought the camera. It arrived at this store on 4/19 and the battery is charging right now. Tall’s has been in the camera business since 1917 and is one of the oldest Nikon dealers in this area. They were kept in the loop by Nikon and they knew the exact dates the new D4 and D800’s would arrive.
D4 (and D800) available seems to me to be totally random.
I didn't even decide to go for a either of these until mid-March. I put my name only one "big" vendor; I was told I was #44 on the non-NPS list for the D4.
I happened to mention to two of my local camera stores that I was interested in both cameras when I was in for other things. I had zero expectation that either would get enough units to make it feasible for me to get one from them.
I was, therefore, highly surprised to be called last Wednesday by one store that a D4 had come in and was mine for the taking (well, buying), so I went right over and grabbed it. The next day, the other store called that a D800 was in, so I claimed it and picked it up on Saturday. Totally random. I have no idea why I got lucky.
I hope all those still waiting get their D4's and D800's soon. Being an instant gratification kind of guy, once I decided to buy, I couldn't wait. (Actually, the D800 is claimed by my wife, so I don't know that I will get to use it all that much, but the D4 will be in my hands.)
Update: Just got a call from my shop. It's here! They only got two in today's delivery. They said they thought they'd be getting more in each shipment, but it's been the opposite. Anyway, in about an hour or so I'll run over there and put my hands on a D4 for the very first time.
I ordered mine before the release date from Berger Bros. Put down a deposit and got a call yesterday from Brad that he was shipping that afternoon! I have a tracking number and it should be here Tuesday.
How often do you get a personal call from the owner telling you they have your stuff!
It's a great feeling, isn't it? When I got my phone call from my shop the person on the line was sincerely thrilled for me. And when I walked into the store they acted as if I had just won the lottery. In fairness, my local shop, Pictureline, always treats me (and I assume other customers) very very well. If I'm just stopping in to buy a filter, or dropping a cook $6k on my new D4, they're great.
Mel, I went with the D4 over the D800 for low light shooting. I would have loved the extra pixels but I shoot a lot of PR shots for local bands in clubs and bars. I decided that I'd rather have the extra low light capability than resolution. Tough choice though, right?
I just ordered a D4 from Calumet where I live in San Francisco.
I ordered it on the March 8.
I was told by the sales rep that there are currently 18 pre-orders at this location and a total of 30 that she can tell for all of Calumet at that time.
She also informed me that it looks like it's going to be about at least an 8 week wait.
I had pre-paid half in cash, and the other half on credit that would be charged when the unit arrives. I let them know that I'm OK with completing the transaction but they couldn't until the item was in stock.
But she informed me and also noted on my reservation that I had put a 50% cash deposit down and that would bump me up on the waiting list so I'm not sure if I'm #19 in San Francisco or #1 now. She did say that a lot of people who ordered one did not put any money down on their orders but that was still vague as far as what position I was in.
As soon as I get any word of my order I'll post a reply here if anyone is still trying to guage what their wait times might be.
Right before I placed my order at Calumet, I had called Keeble & Schucat in Palo Alto, CA, and the rep on the phone informed me that the wait time would also be at least 8 to 20 weeks, with orders going to NPS members and anyone working as a photographer at the Olympic games. Now I'm not sure what type of credentials anyone would need to provide for proving employment as a photographer at the Olympic games but I thought that was interesting.
I'm not an NPS member. I am hoping that putting cold hard cash down helps against the storefronts waiting list, but I know it's all about Nikon's production and delivery... I'm just very anxious now...
I ordered mine thru the military exchange system on the 20th 0f April and it was delivered yesterday directly from Nikon USA. I was NOT pleased that it was dropped outside the door, no signature, nothing by UPS. Ed, Vonore TN
