This past Friday - Sunday I spent three days photographing the Tuscaloosa Regional Air Show with my new D4. I made a point to closely monitor the battery life and photo count.

The camera each day started with a 100% fully charged battery. My shooting day started at 7 am and ended at 6 pm each day. The D4 was used primarily for still photographs, although a total of 8 short video, (30 sec. to 1.5 minutes in length) were made over the three days. I did a moderate amount of photo review. The D4 was mounted with either a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens or a 200-400mm VR f/4 lens.

Over three days, each starting with 100% charge, my battery useage from the internal meter was:
Day 1: 1841 photos, 35% used
Day 2: 3669 photos, 59% used
Day 3: 1765 photos, 26% used

The battery useage seems a bit more than what I got with my D3S but is still within acceptible limits. I don't think I will purchase more than the one spare battery that I already have, since having two batteries should be all I should ever need.
