Custom tonal settings in camera
Is there a way to modify the settings in the camera, like one can do with saturation of color, etc for this:
Almost every picture I take I end up boosting the black a bit in Adjustments/Levels in Photoshop. Some more than others but rarely do I not do this...seems to give more depth and pop to the image. Darker in Brightness makes the overall image just darker and not just the one end of the curve.
Would be great if I could make adjustment in camera for what I normally like and then adjust in software later the ones that need more.

Yes, for any camera in the D3/D300 class or newer, Nikon created the Picture Control system in the camera for this purpose.
Click on the Picture Control Adjustments tab for more details.

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of those picture controls but I was wondering if someone knew if there was a way to get the effect I was mentioning in Photoshop, the increased black in levels or curves, using the picture controls in some combination or if there is just no way. When you change brightness to darker, everything gets darker. I was hoping there was some trick way to only get the effect of changing the dark end of curve and not effect the bright end. Probably not but thought there could be something someone learned that isn't in the manual.
