Different approaches are possible. I'd rather separate FX from DX (and unite all film bodies). Why D1/D2 are mixed with D3/D4 series - and D700/D800 are separated? Professional versus amateur? Come on, no professional uses D1 nowadays, but lots of them are going to use D800.
The camera forums are split by level of camera more than by specific model. The D2X was my main camera back a few years. I'm currently shooting with a D3S and will move to the D4 once it becomes available. Anyone asking about the top level cameras from Nikon can come to this forum and get good information from me - even though I don't use those cameras.
If the cameras are sub divided into smaller groups we would lose the ability get information from previous owners. I rarely check the F100 Film camera's forum because I don't use it. I could help current owners but almost never go look. I'll still check this forum when I have the D4. If someone has a question from a previous camera then I can chime in with my knowledge or lack thereof.
Your profile says you shoot D300, D80, and D100. Why ask in the D4/D3/D2/D1 forum? Seems odd.
