Can anyone tell me why the D100 is advertised as having 6.1 " effective " megapixels when other digital cameras are simply advertised as haveing so many megapixels. Why is it necessary for Nikon to specify " effective " megapixels on the D100 ?

In most cameras the advertised pixels are not all usable.
So what counts are the effective megapixels.
Have a great time :-)

JRP and AlanC,
Thank you for the explanation and the link. The link to Phil Askey explained JRP's explanation.
I don't have a clear understanding of the Digital Camera, but I'm beginning to see how it works.
