Is your camera still in warranty? Do they not clean it under warranty? I'd prefer to pay to have it done properly than muck it up somehow and void any warranty I do have when I take it back to fix anything I've done wrong. I know a lot of people clean thier own but it scares me to try it at all. I've noticed dust on mine recently and have to take the steps to clean it.
I clean my CCD with a modified rubber spatula, pecpads, and eclipse solution. I was scared as hell the first few times I did it, now it is a piece of cake (and the dust bunnies are gone!). And for about $CA 30.00, you can have enough solution and pecpads to clean your CCD for the life of the camera.
thats a good deal..here in seattle...the authorized nikon repair dealer wants $80 US to clean the ccd...but would do a free air blow and if the customer doesn't like the result then fork out the $80 bucks...
under warranty nikon would clean the ccd?...never heard of that...please let me know info on that..
My experience in Vancouver is that Nikon charges the eighty bucks unless they do other service on your camera when they will clean the CCD for free. For example when I had the buffer upgrade done they did a free clean but not a very thorough one and I had to return it for another attempt
I have just returned from Moose Petersen's Digital Landscape Workshop in Moab where just about everyone told me that they clean their own CCD's The workshop was about 90% Nikon shooters.
I am ready to take the plunge and do the job myself although I am a a bit nervous.
I am using the cut down rubber spatula, pec pads and eclipse solution and it works perfectly. A service centre here in London wanted £25 plus 17.5% tax to clean it for me, and considering it needs doing pretty much every week, thats not very good!
