Universal Inexpensive L Bracket
I found an inexpensive L bracket from Manfrotto that fits on a manfrotto head with the octagon quick release. Manfrotto Elbow bracket 340, $74 at B&H.

It is not camera specific, but it will only work on Manfrotto/Bogen tripods with the hexagonal QR. This does not cover the Manfrotto/Bogen square QR, Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 341 Junior Elbow Bracket with 1/4-20" Screw - for RC2 (3157N) Quick Release. And both of those do not look they will work with a big telephotos with a lens foot. Because of this limitaition, I find both elbows just too limiting. I put a Kirk QR on my Manfrotto/Bogen tripod QR and plan to replace that tripod with a Magica.
One can also get a Kirk SQRC-HEX Quick Release Clamp for Arca-Type Plates, with Manfrotto RC0 Hexagonal Base and Kirk SQRC-3271 Quick Release Clamp for Arca-Type Plates, with Manfrotto RC4 (3271) Base and they both have bubble levels to help level the tripod. And because they have the Arca Swiss compatible dove tail, one can obatin a dove tail foot for the big footed telephotos.
If look at the design of the Manfrotto/Bogen elbow and the Arca Swiss L brackets, you will notice a long arm or lever. I think the design of the Acra Swiss L brackets is just better and they appear to be of better quality.
