I paid $525 for a very good copy two years ago. It has only a few minor scrapes on the body. Other than that it was working fine. I wouldn't pay any more than $400-$500 for a good used D1x at this point. You might consider a D2xs at around $1000; these were a major improvement over the D1x. Also keep in mind that most used D1x models would probably need to have service adjustment. You can find people who will do that for a couple hundred bucks. Nikon will charge you around $400 to go over the camera and readjust it. It's worth the money, since autofocus, etc., gets out of whack over time. I paid for a refurbishing two years ago, so for a total of around $1000 I have a great D1x, which is still my main piece of equipment. It's actually a great camera.
KEH is offering them in BGN condition for $200, so I'd put an EX one at around $350. Remember to consider the price of batteries when pricing a D1h or D1x - you need a couple to shoot all day, NOT like a D2.

I got mine a year or so ago for 450 CAD and hardly used it (was to be my B&W camera.) There are a couple on the for sale board now for 300-400. One is mine for 330US, can't recall the $ on the other, mine is at 330 only because the exchange rate (if it was still $ for $ it would be $400)and my BIG desire to get a 70-200 vr. And if it does not sell, I don't think I'll be upset as haveing a backup body just makes me feel better..
