Would D3 and D3x resolve differently at comparable ISOs?

This is a technical question.

But what would be the difference in image quality between the D3 and a D3x at comparable ISOs?

For example, I thought I read somewhere that the D3 would look better at ISO 1600 than the D3x (even though the D3x would have 24MP or something similar). Or is this just flat out wrong? If that's the case, why not just stick with the D3 for better low light capability?

Can someone kindly explain this in layman's terms.
