It doesn't really matter. I have owned l-brackets from both companies and they were both very high quality products. There are some minor design differences and price variations but those are the only things worth considering in my opinion. The last two I bought were Kirk because I wanted to purchase them through the Nikonians Photo Pro Shop since it helps support this site.

Thank you...I had heard that the Kirk sometimes works on the RRS and sometimes not...In speaking with Kirk, that was also their answer, but could not say why other than they would take it back if the L bracket did not work with the RRS head..

I have had no trouble using Kirk l-brackets (for D200, D2xs and D3) on my RRS screw clamp. There have been issues with the lever release clamps but I think they are pretty rare.

I have both on different bodies and an RRS head and RRS clamp, Kirk clamp on my monopod. No issues. If I have to buy new, I usually buy RRS, but have bought Kirk used without any regrets at all. Thanks,Sam
