Has anyone noticed that there appears to be a ton of people with D2s selling them after owning them 1 year or less? I'm a techie junk head like everyone else, but for the amount of money people are plopping down on these bodies, I sure hope they're getting more then a years worth out of them. Some of the bodies have less then 20k clicks on them!

Let's be real...at some point it doesn't matter what technology you have in your hand, it comes down to who is pushing the button. Don't get me wrong, there are probably people out there who legitimately need to upgrade. But I highly doubt the vast majority of us amateurs do.

I've gone from a D70s to a D2H and contemplated going to a D2X, D300 or even a D3. But then I thought wait a minute...what do I gain by moving up...aside from a big credit card bill and a wife who will probably leave me? I gain a little better technology and more mega pixels, but does that mean my images will instantly be better? Doubtful.

For those of you who are on the fence and are contemplating the dreadful path of keeping up with the Jones' think about this; invest your money in you as the photographer by taking a workshop or two from a well known pro. When they're not out on assignment, they make their money teaching others. Look into your local university programs. Many now offer continuing education courses for advanced amateurs. Another option is to upgrade your glass to pro glass. Quality glass can do wonders for your photography. When you go from consumer to pro-sumer to pro glass, you will see a difference in work.

I've personally gotten a better ROI investing money in other areas of my photography other then just sinking thousands of dollars in a new whiz bang body. Not saying my approach is the approach everyone should try, but it's at least one worth considering.
